PS4 Game Dreams will be available on PSVR on July 22

The PS4 combination mini-game collection and development tool Dreams will be available for PSVR on July 22, according to Playstation Europe.

Dreams (developed by Media Molecule) was released back in February and heralded as The Next Big Thing in gaming. Its main selling point was the ability to create art, games, worlds, you name it – by using the easy-to-use development tools included with the game. Or you could just kick back and enjoy other devs’ creations.

Either way, the game didn’t sell enough to make NPD’s list of bestselling list for February. According to PlaystationLifeStyle, this could be because many players had already preordered the game in Early Access.

I think this is a great move (you know what would be an even greater move? releasing Dreams on PC – we need more intuitive game engines) as VR really, really needs more killer content. There’s just so little out there. And I know that making games in Dreams isn’t going to guarantee quality (maybe the opposite), but at least there’s the chance. It’s just too bad that it’s only on PSVR.

Crucible is Heading Back to Closed Beta

In an astounding twist of fate, the Crucible team has pulled the plug on the PVP team-based shooter and relegated it to closed-beta land, where the team hopes to implement changes on the developer roadmap. Current players will still have access to the beta, and new players will need to sign up by tomorrow, 12pm EDT or they’ll have to put their names on a waitlist for future access.

The Amazon-published Crucible has been widely panned by critics and players alike, and unfortunately this writer was unable to find the motivation to install it.

IGN closes Summer of Gaming 2020 digital event with awards show

IGN hosted the Summer of Gaming 2020 Awards, their ending show for their Summer of Gaming digital event. The show featured a charity speedrunner going through Resident Evil 3 Remake, deep dives into some upcoming games, and of course, awards for game trailers.

Notable winners:

Best New Game – Spiderman: Miles Morales
Best Trailer Reveal – Deathloop
Best Gameplay Demo Reveal – Cyberpunk 2077

One part of the event that I found interesting was the deep dive into Airborne Kingdom, a game that I thought had one of the worst trailers at the E3 PC Gamer/PC Gaming Show. It seriously revealed almost nothing about the game and just featured a city flying around.

Well, we now know a bit more about what the gameplay is actually like: essentially, your flying kingdom goes around helping other, land-based kingdoms by going around the world and bringing them stuff. The rewards you get from quests can be used to build new upgrades in your own sky fortress. I’m still not certain if there’s any sort of a real narrative going on here.

Nintendo Stops Sale of Digital Download Codes for European Retailers

Eurogamer reports that Nintendo stopped allowing European retailers to sell game codes for their full games. It seems that this was a decision made specifically for the European market:

After careful examination of the evolving European marketplace in recent years, Nintendo has decided to end the availability of download codes for its own-published software via retailers, effective 1st July 2020.

However, retailers will still be allowed to sell gift cards for the Nintendo eShop, codes for DLC and Nintendo Switch Online memberships.

New Jungler Teased on League of Legends Test Servers

Two new voice clips found on the League of Legends PBE (public beta environment) point to the upcoming release of a new champion named Lillia or Lilia (or possibly Lily):

Lilia was teased as a “dreamy jungler” on Riot Games’ 2020 Champion Roadmap.

Okay, I’ll be honest. This isn’t really that newsworthy, I just wanted an excuse to use that awesome teaser image above. Bye!
